Free membership registrationWe would like to introduce a case study on solving product issues for Company A, a comprehensive engineering manufacturer. In addition to requests from customers and external environments, such as improving process capability aimed at achieving zero outflow defects and intensifying competition with overseas manufacturers, there was a demand for improving the profitability of the production line for the relevant products based on departmental profitability management within the company. To address this, we reduced the work clamping torque of the lathe processing jig, which helped suppress chucking distortion and achieve improvements and stability in shape accuracy. Previously, we guaranteed the same level of precision by lowering processing conditions and conducting careful machining. However, with the above improvements, we were able to reduce the number of machining passes and enhance processing conditions, resulting in a maximum reduction of processing time by 37% and achieving over a 20% improvement in productivity indicators.

Free membership registrationWe are gathering the strengths of each factory and actively reducing costs through in-house production of parts. With the theme of improvement, Okubo Iron Works aims to achieve its goals through a year-long activity! This time, we will introduce "in-house production of processing parts," which is expected to lead to significant cost reductions through collaboration between factories. (Before Improvement) - Spindle Part A: ¥15,300 - Spindle Part B: ¥14,200 Using three of each per month, the cost is ¥88,500/month. (After Improvement) Requesting processing from another workplace within the same factory. Consolidating the parts into one produced in-house, with in-house production costs of ¥1,439. Using three per month, the cost is ¥4,317/month. Effect: ¥88,500/month → ¥4,317/month (approximately 95% cost reduction)

Free membership registrationWe would like to introduce a case where a computer cover was created for the headquarters factory, which manages inventory and delivery schedules using a document called a manufacturing instruction sheet. Previously, computers were placed directly on the workbench, posing a risk of getting dirty from oil mist and coolant splashes from the processing machines. Therefore, we carefully measured the dimensions of the workbench, created our own drawings, and then ordered L-shaped angles. As a result, a perfectly sized cover was completed. By creating something that fits our work environment instead of purchasing off-the-shelf products, we were able to keep costs down while installing a user-friendly cover. This allowed us to keep the factory computers clean and make the work environment more comfortable. 【Case Overview】 ■Challenge: Computers were directly placed on the workbench, which posed a risk of getting dirty from oil mist and coolant splashes emitted from the processing machines. ■Manufacturing Method: - We fixed the purchased L-shaped angles with screws to assemble the frame of the cover. - To prevent dirt, we attached acrylic panels to the top and sides and secured them with screws. *For more details, please feel free to contact us.

Free membership registrationWe would like to introduce an improvement case regarding a movable oiling table. The 4th factory of Okubo Iron Works is characterized by a large number of large and heavy products. After machining, maintenance, and inspection, thorough rust prevention treatment is performed on the entire product and inside all processing holes. However, with the conventional fixed workbench, the movement of products after rust prevention treatment was done manually, which placed a heavy burden on the workers due to the weight of the products and also posed a risk of dropping them. To improve this situation, we introduced a movable oiling table. This new system significantly reduces the burden on workers, enhances safety, and improves work efficiency. Additionally, the ability to work without dirtying the surrounding area is a major advantage. 【Case Overview】 ■ Issues - Manual transportation of products from the workbench to the rust prevention table. - Due to the weight, there is a significant burden on workers and a risk of dropping. ■ Results - Significantly reduced the burden on workers and improved safety. - Achieved improvements in work efficiency and increased productivity. *For more details, please feel free to contact us.

Free membership registrationWe would like to introduce an improvement case regarding rain protection covers for shipping pallets. Until now, we manually covered the products and containers with a cover during each shipment to ensure their protection against sudden weather changes. However, this task took a lot of time and required a large number of bags, leading to cost-related challenges. Therefore, we have assembled a cover using plastic cardboard (pla-dan) and created a new enclosure with a lid that perfectly fits the pallet. As a result of this improvement, the time taken for the task has been reduced from the conventional 4-5 minutes to just 2 minutes. Additionally, the amount of bags used has been significantly reduced, contributing to cost savings. This has greatly improved work efficiency, achieving both faster shipping operations and cost reductions simultaneously. 【Case Summary】 ■ Issue: Rain protection measures for pallets - The time required for shipping tasks was long, leading to decreased efficiency. - The bags used were difficult to reuse and were almost disposable. ■ Improvement Results - Reduced work time from the conventional 4-5 minutes to 2 minutes, significantly enhancing work efficiency. - By discontinuing the use of bags, we successfully reduced consumable costs and compressed expenses.
