Klaran WD is Asahi Kasei's UVC LED designed for air sterilization, surface sterilization, and flowing water sterilization applications. The deep ultraviolet light emitted by this product is absorbed by the nucleic acids of DNA and RNA, which can disrupt the bonds of bases through excitation. Daikin Industries, Ltd. has revealed that the air purifier equipped with Klaran (ACB50X-S), released by the company in April 2021, can suppress over 99% of viruses captured by the "antibacterial HEPA filter" within 30 minutes and can suppress bacteria approximately 10 times faster than conventional methods. A joint research project between Crystal IS, a subsidiary of Asahi Kasei, and Boston University NEIDL has demonstrated that the wavelength of 260nm-270nm emitted by Klaran (Asahi Kasei's sterilizing UVC LED) can inactivate (sterilize) the novel coronavirus with a lower ultraviolet exposure compared to the previously confirmed wavelength of 280nm.
