University of Tokyo, Professor Mae, Case Study on the Use of FLIR Thermal Imaging Cameras

The former associate professor has been using FLIR thermal imaging cameras since around 2010 to visually evaluate the insulation and airtightness of houses.

Introduction of a Case Study from the University of Tokyo on Visualizing Thermal Environments ーーーー Associate Professor Masayuki Mae of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, has been pursuing the true form of eco-houses since 2008, engaging in a wide range of research themes including air conditioning, ventilation, hot water supply, and the use of natural light. He believes that "a house with high insulation and airtightness, without temperature variations between the head and feet," is the condition for a highly comfortable eco-house. By using a thermal imaging camera, areas with insulation defects can be identified by color differences, allowing for verification of whether the construction can perform as intended, and similarly, airtightness can also be confirmed. Since around 2010, Associate Professor Mae has been using FLIR Systems' thermal imaging cameras to visually evaluate the insulation and airtightness of houses. He states about the FLIR thermal imaging camera, "I was impressed the first time I used it. Using thermal images makes the differences in comfort immediately clear," and adds, "It makes it easier for the general public, who may not have expertise in architecture, to understand the importance of the thermal environment in their homes." ーーーー We also introduce techniques for utilizing thermal imaging cameras. Please take a moment to read it.

[Case Study] Thermal Imaging Camera 'FLIR C3'

Quick and accurate seat leak verification. Chosen for seat inspections in many transportation systems!

In the field of vehicle cleaning and inspection for railways and similar operations, a sense of urgency is required as every second counts. Until now, it was necessary to check each individual seat, which took a lot of time and increased physical strain due to the additional movements involved. However, with a thermal imaging camera, it is now possible to inspect an entire row of seat surfaces at once. Furthermore, being able to directly see leaks through temperature allows for a significant reduction in false detections. FLIR products, which are already active in many inspection sites, are expected to become even more widely used tools in the future. 【Benefits of Implementation】 ■ Reduced inspection time ■ Suppression of false detections ■ Reduced physical strain *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

[Use Case] Komatsu Koriyama Factory

Introducing the case of Komatsu, which reduced the air leak inspection time to less than half and the workforce to one-third!

We would like to introduce a case study of the industrial acoustic camera 'FLIR Si124' implemented at the Komatsu Koriyama Factory. [Before Implementation] We relied on hearing to detect air leaks during quiet periods when the production line was stopped, but we needed to complete inspections of all equipment within the downtime of the production line. Even with 2 or 3 people conducting inspections, it resulted in working on holidays, limiting us to about 4 days a year. [After Implementation] The total inspection time was reduced to less than half, and the number of personnel required was reduced to one-third. Additionally, inspections could now be conducted at any time without being restricted by specific time periods, allowing us to progress inspections according to the workload. [Case Overview] ■ Challenges - Relied on hearing to detect air leaks - Needed to complete inspections in one day on line stoppage days such as holidays ■ Results - Inspections can now be conducted at any time regardless of equipment operation status - Total inspection time was reduced to less than half, and personnel required was reduced to one-third *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
