Engineering ceramics

Ceramics that excel in strength and toughness, often used under harsh conditions as mechanical components. They are mainly divided into two types: oxide-based and non-oxide-based. Oxide-based ceramics have relatively high freedom in molding methods and can be sintered in the atmosphere, making them widely adopted in various fields. Non-oxide-based ceramics are those in which elements other than oxygen, such as carbon and nitrogen, are chemically bonded, imparting specific properties such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and strength.
