Thermocouple wire

Thermocouples require appropriate selection of materials, shapes, wire diameters, and insulation that suit the temperature measurement environment. Ishikawa Industries classifies its various thermocouple wires and compensation wires into categories such as thermocouple bare wires, insulated thermocouple wires, compensation wires, sheathed wires, and special thermocouple wires, making it easy to understand their suitability for different applications. We offer insulation materials such as Teflon, fiberglass, ceramic, enamel, and vinyl.

Thermocouple wire (bare wire)

Made from materials specified by international industrial standards, with customizable wire diameter and length. We offer the following three types.

■General Use Thermocouple Wire This is a wire made from materials compatible with various types of thermocouples widely used in measurement fields. We offer wire diameters ranging from 0.0127mm (12.7μm) to 3.25mm. Please feel free to consult us for special specifications. ■High-Temperature Thermocouple Wire (Noble Metal and High-Temperature Thermocouple Wire) This thermocouple wire is primarily made from platinum and tungsten, specifically used for measurements in high-temperature ranges. ■Specialty Thermocouple Wire (Ultra-Fine Thermocouple Wire) We offer thermocouple wires that combine metals not covered by industrial standards, such as WOLLASTON PROCESS WIRE with wire diameters of only a few microns, for special research and development or evaluation experiments.

Insulated thermocouple wire (Teflon, glass, ceramic, enamel)

We offer single wire (single type) and double insulated wire (duplex type).

In a thermocouple, the point where different metals are in contact (the junction) becomes the measurement point. When using uncoated thermocouple wires, it is necessary to devise a way to ensure that each wire does not touch anywhere other than at the measurement point. To alleviate this inconvenience, thermocouple wires that are coated with materials such as Teflon are referred to as insulated thermocouple wires. ■ Insulated single wire for thermocouples (single type) This is a thermocouple wire that has been coated with insulation. It provides ease of handling for thin thermocouple wires and also serves to protect the wire metal, which is susceptible to chemical reactions. Materials available include Formvar (enamel), Teflon (PFA), and Ceramo (ceramic). ■ Double insulated thermocouple wire (duplex type) This consists of two single type insulated thermocouple wires, one for the positive side and one for the negative side, arranged in parallel and further coated to create a two-layer structure, also known as parallel wire. This type is even easier to handle than the single type, and the overall strength of the thermocouple is improved. The junctions are also easier to manufacture.

Thermocouple compensation wire (Duplex type)

It has become easier to connect to measuring instruments such as thermocouples with thin wire diameters and low strength, and cost reduction is also expected.

Thermocouple wires made from materials specified by international industrial standards tend to be expensive, and wiring and installing thermocouple wires and the coated thermocouple wires from the measurement point to data loggers and other measuring instruments is a significant burden in terms of actual work and costs. Compensation wires are made from less expensive metal wires that have thermal electromotive force characteristics almost equivalent to those of the thermocouples used, and like thermocouple wires, they are standardized in various countries, requiring the selection of compensation wires that are compatible with the types of thermocouple wires.

Sheath thermocouple wire (Inconel/SS304)

This is a thermocouple wire that has a structure in which a thermocouple element is electrically insulated with a filler material sealed inside a metal protective sheath (sheath).
