The voluntary certification system overseen by the U.S. Green Building Council includes LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), with evaluation points based on the following seven criteria: [1] Sustainability of the building (site) and transportation convenience [2] Water efficiency and conservation [3] Energy savings and use of renewable energy [4] Material reuse and recycling rates [5] Indoor environmental comfort [6] Innovation and special credits for the design process [7] Regional priority credits.

The large-scale "sand filtration" systems used until now have incurred enormous maintenance costs, and neglecting maintenance leads to a "significant decrease" in filtration capacity. Additionally, frequent backwashing required a vast amount of water. After switching from "organophosphorus water treatment agents" to "CALFA BAS" and from the sand filtration system to "CALFA S.E.P.", turbidity decreased by "87%!!" and total hardness decreased by "60%!!" in just two weeks! (24-hour operation) The facility's equipment management supervisor had a comment on this: "What on earth was all the enormous cost we were incurring for? I want to gradually switch to this."
