Wear of the screw can be broadly classified into corrosive wear occurring in the metering section and wear due to thrust loads near the boundary between the feed section and the compression section. These types of wear can be mitigated by using sintered hard alloy KH. The cylinder is structured to have an inner lining of hard alloy KH through shrink fitting. The hard alloy KH was independently developed by Toyo Steel Plate and is a cermet (Ceramics + Metal) that combines the hardness of ceramics with the strength of metals. The "KH Cylinder" is a product manufactured by fitting a 4mm thick sleeve made by KH onto steel material (SCM440) through a shrink fitting process. The 4mm hard layer is very thick compared to other products, demonstrating excellent wear resistance against abrasion from GF-filled resins and under harsh molding conditions. Additionally, the shrink fitting method is effective because it exerts a tightening force from the outside in, making it strong against internal pressure and suitable for high-speed, high-pressure molding where injection pressure is high. We would like to introduce the "KH Screw" that we handle. By sintering KH onto an SCM440 core, not only the surface but the entire screw flight becomes a hard layer. Therefore, it is suitable for materials that cause early wear of the flight, such as plastic magnets, and for materials that corrode steel, such as halogen-free resins. In this case, the customer was molding a resin with 40% glass fiber (GF40%), and the cylinder wore out in about a year.
