Construction example: Tile anti-slip (Slip Out ME method)

In January 2009, slip-resistant processing was carried out on the tile (clinker tile) floor in front of the entrance of the Izumi-Otsu City Hall in Osaka Prefecture using the Slip Out (ME method). Due to the smooth surface of the clinker tile, it was a very slippery and dangerous flooring material when wet. While clinker tiles have the advantages of being hard, resistant to wear, and easy to clean and maintain, these qualities were the main factors contributing to the slipperiness. To meet the request from the management to suppress slipping without changing the landscape or appearance, we implemented the Slip Out method to create macro-level holes (widening the gaps) in the flooring material.

・This method treats the surface of tiles and natural stones with solvents without compromising their appearance, making them less slippery during rain or wet conditions. ・The construction period is very short, and the site can be opened immediately after construction. The treatment solvent expands the existing gaps on the floor surface, forming cup-like shapes, which, combined with the surface tension of water (preventing molecules from separating) and the capillary phenomenon caused by external pressure (such as feet) on the water surface, helps to reduce slipping.
