Chanterelle Technical Information: Command Spoofing and Function Hijacking

We will provide technical information about Chantilly.
We received an inquiry stating, "The equipment that was continuously produced does not operate at all after assembly."
We began our investigation from a non-operational state and identified that the program was stuck in a loop. The I2C function was not working, and the IO pin levels were not changing at all. This CPU is a discontinued product, and upon hearing the circumstances, we learned that they had procured stock from distribution for assembly.
The conclusion was that the I2C function is an optional part number for this CPU, and the stock from distribution did not support it.
Since it was not possible to obtain the necessary component, we decided to intercept this function with an FPGA, and the CPU would return data from the FPGA using spoofed instructions.
As a result, we did not make any changes to the existing software, allowing us to proceed with the evaluation of only the specific function (in this case, I2C).
