Therefore, we intercepted the positioning completion signal and added control to feedback the operation timing of the additional axis. As a result, we were able to add functionality simply by attaching an additional board, without making any changes to the existing hardware or software. Due to production circumstances, it seems that the device used for verification was returned to its original wiring and shipped as a product.

We began our investigation from a non-operational state and identified that the program was stuck in a loop. The I2C function was not working, and the IO pin levels were not changing at all. This CPU is a discontinued product, and upon hearing the circumstances, we learned that they had procured stock from distribution for assembly. The conclusion was that the I2C function is an optional part number for this CPU, and the stock from distribution did not support it. Since it was not possible to obtain the necessary component, we decided to intercept this function with an FPGA, and the CPU would return data from the FPGA using spoofed instructions. As a result, we did not make any changes to the existing software, allowing us to proceed with the evaluation of only the specific function (in this case, I2C).
