By taking advantage of the fact that the brightness changes that occur when the slit pattern is shifted at a constant cycle differ depending on the presence and shape of defects in the workpiece being inspected, defects are emphasized. The types of defects that arise vary depending on the surface condition and processing of the target workpiece, but the SSMM-1R can capture images suitable for the intended defects by allowing arbitrary settings for the direction and shape of the slit.
