The reason for this is that the spacing between the linear polymer chains of CNF is expanded by binding with copper ions, creating pathways that allow lithium ions to pass through smoothly. Additionally, it is said that its ability to transport ions is 10 to 100 times higher compared to other polymer ion conductors. Furthermore, leveraging its characteristics as an ion conductor, there is potential for it to be used as a binder for the positive electrode in solid-state batteries.
