basic information
**Course Overview** In recent years, the high output of LEDs has been continuously advancing, and their applications have been diversifying in response to energy-saving needs. When considering LED lighting applications, the issue of "visual stress" from LED light sources has recently become a topic of discussion. The aspects of visual stress include flickering from LED light sources, thermal stress on the retina from LED light sources, blue light stress, and glare, among others. In particular, blue light stress has been suggested to suppress melatonin secretion, raising concerns about its potential link to carcinogenicity, and research on the effects of these artificial light sources on living organisms is being conducted in various countries. This discussion will also include a comparison with organic LEDs, which have relatively less blue wavelength and glare, as we consider the future direction and trends of individual lighting.
