**Course Objectives and Aims** Recently, Japanese companies have been establishing a global patent strategy that involves reducing the number of patent applications in Japan while increasing the number of foreign applications. A key issue in foreign applications is the control of costs and quality related to translation and OA responses. Additionally, with the digitization of operations and the free movement of talented bilingual professionals in science and engineering across borders, patent offices in various countries have already become globalized, and Japanese companies are now directly engaging with many overseas patent offices. In particular, some large machinery and electronics manufacturers are exploring various methods to improve cost performance by directly controlling local agents without going through domestic patent offices. Therefore, based on our experience supporting domestic handling-type global patent applications as an external office for Japanese companies' intellectual property departments, we would like to make suggestions specifically focused on quality management and negotiation methods with local patent attorneys, particularly for applications in China and Taiwan.
