The Zerast film contains Zerast components blended into polyethylene film, which gradually sublimate (vaporize) at room temperature and dissolve in the moisture of the atmosphere. The dissolved Zerast components suppress the imbalanced potential that forms on metal surfaces, inhibiting electrochemical reactions and preventing rust. Therefore, while the metal is wrapped in the Zerast film, the rust prevention effect is continuously sustained, protecting important products from rust. Additionally, this film complies with the Food Sanitation Act, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Notification No. 20, "Standards for Synthetic Resin Utensils or Containers and Packaging Mainly Composed of Polyethylene and Polypropylene," as well as RoHS designated substances, allowing for safe use. There are three types available to match the metal material: for iron, for non-ferrous metals, and for both iron and non-ferrous metals, with standard products also available.

The occurrence of rust is caused by the condensation phenomenon, where moisture in the atmosphere is cooled and transformed into water droplets. When these droplets adhere to the metal surface, an uneven potential is generated on the metal surface, leading to electrochemical reactions that form rust. In the mold, automotive, machinery, and metal parts industries, traditional rust prevention measures during the "manufacturing," "shipping," and "storage" processes have typically involved applying grease or rust-preventive oil to the metal surface. However, these methods require complicated processes that involve significant labor and costs, such as "application" and "oil wiping," and raise several concerns, including deterioration of the working environment and impacts on workers' health. In particular, in countries with strict environmental standards, such as Japan and Western countries, the cleaning treatment of grease and rust-preventive oil has been viewed as problematic, and alternative rust prevention measures have been awaited. The Zerust film is a completely new rust prevention film and bag that addresses such issues.
