basic information
**Course Objectives and Aims** In general, organic materials such as polymers and inorganic materials like silica have a large difference in surface energy, resulting in poor compatibility. Therefore, silane coupling agents are used to reduce the interfacial tension between organic and inorganic materials, enhancing the compatibility of both components and improving the dispersibility of inorganic materials. Silane coupling agents are essential compounds for improving adhesion at the interface between inorganic components (fillers and fine particles) and organic components (polymers), as well as for enhancing the compatibility of composite materials. In recent years, there has been active research and development of organic-inorganic nano-composite/nano-hybrid materials using sol-gel methods and inorganic fine particles as new materials, where silane coupling agents play a crucial role. This course will outline the types, functions, mechanisms of action, usage methods, treatment effects, and applications of silane coupling agents, covering the fundamentals to applications.
