**[Lecture Summary]** In the management of research and development projects, it is important to appropriately evaluate the investment effects of themes and make decisions on selection and budget allocation. To achieve this, it is key to standardly introduce evaluation methods that quantitatively measure business value, allowing for the examination of changes in business value due to strategy and enabling comparisons between different investment projects. This seminar will explain the basic knowledge, concepts, and methods for measuring the business value and risks of research and development projects using economic metrics, incorporating case studies and practical exercises. Additionally, it will discuss methods for making decisions in the selection of research and development themes from the perspectives of individual optimization and overall optimization (business portfolio). Participants are required to bring a laptop with Excel installed, as practical exercises will be conducted using Excel.
