Chemical strengthening is considered particularly effective for thin plates under 3.0 tons compared to air cooling strengthening.

The strengthening of glass aims to enhance its strength by generating compressive stress on the glass surface, compensating for the inherent weakness of glass under tension. Chemical strengthening involves immersing the glass in potassium nitrate, which replaces sodium with potassium in the surface layer of the glass, creating compressive stress.
