The tolerance range of colors can be expressed in terms of color difference values.

When the measured tristimulus values XYZ are converted to UCS (Uniform Color Space), they can be displayed in L*a*b* coordinates, allowing for the comparison of the magnitude of perceived color differences based on the distance between the coordinates of two colors. In other words, the acceptable range of colors can be expressed in terms of color difference values. 【Examples of Color Tolerances】 ■ AAA Grade Tolerance - The range of perceivable color difference is the limit at which strict color difference standards can be established based on the reproducibility of visual judgment. ■ AA Grade Tolerance - The range of perceivable color difference is at a level where slight color differences can be felt through adjacent color comparisons. This includes the tolerances between general color measurement instruments. ■ A Grade Tolerance - The range of perceivable color difference is at a level where color differences are hardly noticed in distant color comparisons. Generally considered to be the same color. ■ B Grade Tolerance - The range of perceivable color difference can be treated as the same color at an impression level. In the paint and plastic industries, this can lead to complaints about color differences. ■ C Grade Tolerance - The range of perceivable color difference corresponds to a color difference of one step on IS standard color charts or Munsell color charts. ■ D Grade Tolerance - The range of perceivable color difference is at a level where differences can be distinguished by subdivided systematic color names, and exceeding this level leads to the perception of a different color name. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
