basic information
【Purpose of the Course】 Fillers are inorganic or organic fine particles added to enhance the functionality of resins (plastics), and it is not an exaggeration to say that they support modern science and technology. As interest in nanotechnology increases, particle sizes have been reduced to millimeters, microns, and now to nanoscale and ultrafine particles. To achieve high dispersion of fine particles in plastics, it is desirable to utilize the charge repulsion and steric hindrance of the particle surfaces. This course will introduce not only the fundamental knowledge regarding the dispersion of fine particles but also model experiments on the dispersion of fine particles such as titanium oxide, titanium oxide nanoparticles, alumina, and calcium carbonate that the author has experienced, as well as dispersion experiments of fine particles in a PET melt polymerization system based on those results. Furthermore, it will cover the recent active research on the dispersion of nano carbon particles and cellulose nanofibers, as well as trends in the research and development of their nanocomposites, along with recent patent and literature information.
