basic information
**Lecture Summary** The white LED (Light Emitting Diode), developed in 1996, is considered the fourth generation of lighting for humanity, following candles, incandescent bulbs, and fluorescent lights. Additionally, due to its small size and low operating voltage, it contributes to energy savings, and its long lifespan further promotes its rapid adoption from the perspective of energy conservation. On the other hand, LEDs also serve as a cost-effective light source for optical communication compared to semiconductor lasers (LD). Against this background, this lecture will outline the fundamentals of visible light (lighting light) communication technology, a new approach that allows for simultaneous lighting and communication, while also discussing the research status of optical communication using white LEDs, which are certain to become widely adopted in the future.
