In 1990, one of the two factories of a watch manufacturer in the United States (Silicon Valley) and one factory in Japan transferred their business rights to Kobe Steel, Ltd., changing the company name to Kobelco Automatec Co., Ltd. They began to expand their work beyond automatic machines and robotic systems to focus more on semiconductor manufacturing lines. In 1993, they became independent from Kobe Steel, Ltd.
