It effectively averages axial loads (thrust loads) around the circumference in response to static loads or small movements, making it useful for cushioning in tight spaces. It consists of thin washers made of spring steel that are bent into multiple wave shapes, and its applications include preventing loosening of screws, eliminating play between components, and serving as a spacer spring to secure space along the same axis in a spring-like manner.
