Applications/Examples of results
The RoHS directive is a regulation in the EU (European Union) that prohibits the use of harmful chemicals in electrical and electronic equipment such as computers, communication devices, and household appliances. Its aim is to minimize the risks that environmental impact and harm to human health pose throughout the product lifecycle, from production to disposal. The usage restrictions came into effect on July 1, 2006, and the prohibited substances under the RoHS directive include six types: lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE). Additionally, the revised RoHS has added four types of phthalate esters (DEHP, DBP, BBP, DIBP), bringing the total to ten regulated substances.
