Quantum dots / Cadmium sulfide nanocrystals
Cadmium sulfide nanocrystals are single-crystal semiconductor nanoparticles that are also well-known as quantum dots. The uniqueness of these quantum dots arises from the fact that their optical and electrical properties vary with particle size, as well as from the flexibility of processing possibilities. The size of these quantum dots ranges from 2 to 7 nanometers, and they possess optical properties across the ultraviolet to blue wavelength range. Typical cadmium sulfide quantum dots are inorganic semiconductors coated with organic ligands on their surfaces. These ligands enable the stability, solubility, and processability of these nanocrystals in solvents. Unlike organic dyes, quantum dots absorb a wide range of light and emit limited light. This property allows for the emission of true colors at specific wavelengths by exciting them with a broad spectrum of light. The luminescent potential of quantum dots is determined by the quality and size distribution of the nanocrystals in the solvent.
