basic information
**Part 1: Lecture Summary** Have you ever wanted to touch something displayed on a touch panel display? In this lecture, after introducing several tactile sensors and displays, we will explore the bidirectionality of human touch. As one realization of this bidirectionality, we will present a technology that utilizes human illusions to allow users to touch what is displayed on a touch panel and further present changes in tactile sensations. We hope to provide hints for the future of tactile interfaces. **Part 2: Lecture Summary** Humans can perceive sensations such as "smooth" and "rough" when tracing solid surfaces. In this research, we apply ultrasonic actuators to present such sensations. By controlling the excitation of ultrasound in accordance with finger movements on the device surface, this presentation becomes possible. If we can excite ultrasound in an elastic medium that is thin and transparent like glass, we will be able to integrate this vibrator with a touch panel. This lecture will discuss the development of such touch panels and the applied research on skin sensation displays.
