【Unique Liquefaction Countermeasures】 Ground liquefaction occurs primarily in saturated loose sandy soils during significant earthquakes. It is a phenomenon where sand behaves like a liquid. The Columbus+ method mitigates the impact on the ground by removing heavy soil beneath the foundation and replacing it with lightweight and compression-resistant "Geofoam." Additionally, by installing a drainage material called "Foamed Drainage Material" in appropriate locations, it adjusts and dissipates the excess pore water pressure caused by liquefaction. 【What is Foamed Drainage Material?】 ○ It is made of the same foamed resin body as Geofoam, with a void ratio of about 30% and drainage functionality. ○ When liquefaction occurs, the foamed drainage material separates the soil and water, allowing only water to be discharged, thereby suppressing the outflow of soil. ○ It has cushioning properties equal to or greater than those of Geofoam. ○ The entire surface is sealed with a thin non-woven fabric, preventing clogging and the intrusion of soil or sand. 【Results of On-Site Investigation in Urayasu City】 The damage from differential settlement was suppressed compared to other buildings.
