The first Western-style restaurant to operate in our country was Seiyoken (now Ueno Seiyoken), which opened in the early Meiji period during the flourishing era of civilization and enlightenment, in Tsukiji, Tokyo (around the current Kabukiza). This is well known as part of the history of Western cuisine in our country. Under the guidance of Mr. Kitamura, the founder of Seiyoken, the first president of Taisei Corporation, Mr. Ishikawa Yoshikatsu, began the production of Western-style food packaging in our country and established Ishikawa Shoten in April 1891. Since the days when Ginza had red brick pavements and horse-drawn railcars, we have developed alongside Western cuisine and Western sweets through the Taisho, Showa, and Heisei eras to the present day. During this time, we faced unprecedented challenges such as the Great Kanto Earthquake and World War II, enduring multiple crises. However, we overcame these hardships and have continued on this path, celebrating our 120th anniversary in Heisei 21 (2009). Today, we have the longest tradition in this industry in our country, and based on the rich experience and achievements cultivated by that tradition, we are striving for the latest technology and quality improvements.
