basic information
**Lecture Summary** This presentation will explain the mechanism of adhesive properties through a method of measuring adhesive area using rough surface prisms. It will discuss the factors that control bulk properties such as the elastic modulus of rubber-like flat regions (plateau modulus) and glass transition temperature (Tg) when considering the basic design of adhesives. Next, it will introduce the functions and research examples of tackifiers. This section will cover the compatibility of tackifiers with base polymers (phase diagrams, Flory-Huggins equation), the reduction of plateau modulus due to the addition of tackifiers, and the shift in Tg (free volume theory, FOX equation). Finally, as research examples related to tackifiers, it will present the temporal movement of tackifiers within adhesive tapes, the properties of adhesives with two layers of different tackifiers, and the characteristics of adhesives with surface-concentrated tackifiers (preventing foaming in optical film adhesives).
