basic information
Arsenic is present in low concentrations throughout the Earth's crust. However, under special conditions, high-concentration deposits of arsenic can occur (including deposits of volcanic rocks, phosphates, and sulfides). Arsenic leaches from these deposits as arsenite (AsO33-) or arsenate (AsO43-), contaminating groundwater. In addition to natural sources, industrial and agricultural activities contribute to arsenic-related water pollution. The WHO recommends that the concentration of arsenic in drinking water should be below 10 μg/L. This report describes the quantification of arsenic in water samples using anodic stripping voltammetry with the scTRACE Gold sensor. Furthermore, it can distinguish between total arsenic concentration and As(III) concentration. With a deposition time of 60 seconds, the detection limit for total arsenic concentration is 0.9 μg/L, and the detection limit for As(III) concentration is 0.3 μg/L.
