Significantly improved water absorption and heat resistance! Plastic aspheric lens. Contributes to weight reduction and miniaturization.
When considering the lightweight, compact design, or mass production and workability of lenses, acrylic (PMMA) and polycarbonate (PC), which are thermoplastic resin materials, are regarded as superior lens materials compared to optical glass. However, it has been a concern that when such resins are used in harsh environments like high temperatures and high humidity, the changes in optical properties tend to be greater than those of optical glass. Therefore, it is true that there have been limitations on their use as lenses. This plastic aspherical lens is made from a polyolefin-based thermoplastic resin that has light transmittance and low birefringence comparable to PMMA, while significantly improving PMMA's drawbacks of water absorption and heat resistance. In fact, this material has been successfully introduced in pickup lenses for car CD players that require heat resistance up to 120°C. By adopting an aspherical design, the effective diameter of the lens can be fully utilized, resulting in high-quality and powerful images. ■ Excellent durability in harsh environments ■ High heat resistance ■ Low water absorption *The catalog of Edmund Optics Japan can be downloaded from the link below.
