The half drum lens is a special drum lens that has one side polished to a flat surface. The flat processing provides the advantage of easy bonding to the end face of optical fibers. As a lens, it functions like a thick plano-convex lens, and when parallel light is incident, it images at a lower NA (suitable for SM fibers).
