Technical Data: Surface Treatment Technology Contributing to the High Performance of Resins
*****
The resin being molded is becoming high-performance and high-functionality, and molds are often placed in harsh environments. The release properties, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance are improved through functional surface treatment technologies.
Our company’s functional surface treatment technology, "Protonics System (R)," which encompasses over 100 types, obtained trademark rights in 1990. Here, we introduce coating, micro-blasting technology, coating properties, and representative improvement examples. 【Improvement Examples】 ○ Improvement of release properties and non-stickiness By applying it to mold product parts, gates, sprues, etc., release properties and fluidity are enhanced. ○ Improvement of sliding properties and wear resistance By applying it to mold sliding parts, ejector pins, sleeves, etc., the sliding properties and wear resistance between metals are improved. ○ Improvement of wear resistance and fluidity By applying it to gate sections, nozzle inner diameters, etc., wear resistance and fluidity against filler-containing resins are enhanced. ○ Improvement of corrosion resistance By applying it to molds and related parts, corrosion resistance against gases generated from molding materials is improved, and applying it to cooling water holes stabilizes the cooling effect. ○ Improvement of corrosion resistance in mold cooling holes Surface treatment is applied only to the cooling water channels of the mold, contributing to an increase in mold lifespan and stabilization of molding conditions. ○ Build-up and dimensional adjustment Precise build-up adjustments of several tens of micrometers for burr prevention and dimensional adjustments can be performed with the coating. 【For more details, please refer to the download.】

basic information
Release properties refer to the characteristic of not causing adhesion or burning on the surface, and it is also known as non-stickiness. The reason why frying pans and hot plates coated with fluororesin do not stick is due to this property. - Before: In medical PE resin molding, defects due to mold corrosion were a problem. → After: Mold corrosion has been eliminated, allowing for continuous molding. - Before: In PP resin injection molding core pins, poor release properties led to frequent defects due to deformation. → After: Release properties have dramatically improved, and deformation defects have been eliminated. Currently in mass production with 200,000 shots without maintenance. - Before: In silicone rubber injection molding, poor release properties required the use of release agents and manual air blowing for demolding. → After: Demolding is possible without release agents and without air blowing, resulting in a 50% improvement in production efficiency. As shown above, this leads to reduced maintenance and increased processing capacity, providing significant benefits. [Efforts Toward Environmental Measures] In recent years, global environmental regulations have been imposed on various industrial products and manufacturing processes. Regulations such as the "PRTR Law," "RoHS Directive," "PFOS," and "REACH" have increasingly constrained traditional manufacturing due to the restrictions on the use and discharge of environmentally harmful substances. The Protronics Group has not only complied with these regulations but has also proactively addressed these issues and advanced development from an early stage. We have conducted early investigations into the restrictions on the use of relevant substances in recent environmental regulations and have been engaged in research on alternatives or the elimination of such substances. As part of our environmental efforts, we have newly introduced "wastewater treatment facilities" (operational since October 2007) to not only meet discharge regulations from factories but also to aim for the discharge of as clean "water" as possible.
