This is an automatic centering idler on the return side that uses tapered rollers. Due to the larger diameter in the center of the belt and the smaller diameter at the ends, the difference in surface speed of the rollers during belt contact activates the tracking and offset adjustment function. The frame pivots towards the side where the belt is misaligned, promoting the adjustment function.
