Quality Engineering (Taguchi Method) is a systematized approach developed by Dr. Genichi Taguchi as a "way of working and thinking for engineers." In Japan, the official name is "Quality Engineering," which can be divided into "offline quality engineering" and "online quality engineering." Generally, offline quality engineering is referred to as "Taguchi Method = Taguchi Methods (abbreviated as TM)."

List of Main Contents of Quality Engineering ■ Offline Quality Engineering (Taguchi Method) ■ A method of design conducted by engineers separately from the production line in research, development, design, and production technology. 1) Parameter Design: A design methodology for developing reliable technologies that satisfy various usage conditions efficiently and at low cost. 2) MT System: A new information processing technology that performs pattern recognition from multidimensional information, enabling estimation, prediction, and diagnosis. It uses an average state as a reference and judges based on the distance from that reference, allowing for the detection of unknown anomalies. 3) Tolerance Design: A method for seeking the optimal balance between quality and cost using a loss function when there are concerns about the variation in characteristics obtained from parameter design. 4) Estimation of Quality Levels: A method for evaluating and comparing the quality levels of purchased parts and finished products. 5) Determining Standards: A method for theoretically determining the product standards (tolerances) to be recorded in drawings and specifications, without relying on experience or intuition. ■ Online Quality Engineering ■ Includes 1) feedback control, 2) process diagnosis and adjustment, 3) system design for process linkage, 4) applied control, 5) inspection design, etc., but detailed explanations are omitted here.
