Light is emitted from the side of the optical fiber. This can be used for side illumination and for removing the cladding mode of the optical fiber.
The side of the optical fiber is processed to emit light from the side. The operating wavelength ranges from the visible region to near-infrared (approximately 400 to 1700 nm). The incident power into the optical fiber can be up to about 1 W. The processed part is protected by a glass tube or similar. The size of the optical fiber has been successfully produced from φ200 µm to φ1000 µm (1 mm).
