Kusuriukon is a type of ginger family (Zingiberaceae) plant native to Java and Malaysia. In Indonesia, it is called Tumuw Lawaku, and wild varieties exist. It is a turmeric species unique to Indonesia. Scientific name: Curcuma xanthorrhiza. Common name: Kusuriukon. There are over ten types of turmeric in the ginger family, but Kusuriukon is one of the turmeric species native to Indonesia. It resembles galangal but is larger, reaching a height of 2 meters, with a thickened rhizome that is deep yellow, and has a pungent aroma and bitterness. The main components are curcumin and xanthorrhizol, among others. It is rich in protein and starch, making it a health food ingredient.
