Hemming is a method of shaping metal sheets by rotating them to form a rotational body shape. The initial investment (such as mold costs) for press molds requires a concave-convex type, whereas hemming only requires a basic convex type. The cost of a hemming mold starts at 20,000 yen, while a press mold starts at 250,000 yen (for simple shapes), allowing for a very low initial investment, making it suitable for small-batch production of various types. Additionally, because the material is shaped by rotation, the stress in the rolling direction of the material can be reduced, resulting in higher precision in post-shaping distortions compared to pressed products.
