SABIC's LNP ELCRIN iQ compounds and blend products are based on iQ PBT resin that has been upcycled using SABIC's proprietary technology. This upcycling technology overcomes the limitations of mechanical recycling by using a chemical process that depolymerizes PET bottles and other PET waste into precursor chemicals, and then purifies them to produce new PBT resin. Additionally, this upcycling technology provides excellent performance characteristics such as high production efficiency, outstanding flowability, chemical resistance, colorability, and flame retardancy. LNP ELCRIN iQ resin can directly replace virgin PBT and other conventional PBT resins, allowing customers to switch from their currently used PBT resin to LNP ELCRIN iQ resin, thereby making their products more environmentally friendly and sustainable. Furthermore, LNP ELCRIN iQ resin has been shown in a life cycle assessment study to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint during material production by up to 61% and 49%, respectively, by not using virgin raw materials that were previously used in PBT manufacturing.
