Efficient propagation in liquids and solids! Applications include ultrasonic thickness gauges, among others.
Our company conducts UT (Ultrasonic Testing). In ultrasonic testing, frequencies ranging from 500 kHz to 10 MHz are utilized. Compared to electromagnetic waves and light, the propagation speed of sound is significantly slower, and sound cannot propagate without a medium, so the propagation speed varies depending on the properties of that medium. For example, the speed of sound in air is about 340 m/s, in water it is about 1,530 m/s, and in iron it is about 5,000 m/s. In contrast, light and electromagnetic waves travel at 300,000 km/s (3×10^8 m/s). Additionally, sound tends to attenuate easily in gases, while it propagates efficiently in liquids and solids. Due to its slower propagation speed, ultrasound is convenient for measuring distances; specifically, it involves emitting ultrasonic waves and measuring the time taken for the reflected waves to return, allowing for distance measurement. Applications include ultrasonic thickness gauges (which measure the thickness of materials such as steel plates). *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
