Case study of ETFE membrane roof construction: Haneda Airport Terminal 2 International Facility
Achieving excellent weather resistance and design! Expressing a unique indoor and outdoor space as a new landmark connecting the sky and the sea.
This is a cushion-type membrane structure that combines ETFE film with a thickness of 500 microns and a non-combustible membrane material. By continuously installing 318 cushion units measuring 3m x 9m, we constructed a membrane roof space of 6,500 square meters. This project had two major themes that needed to be addressed: [Roof Fire Resistance] and [Roof Insulation]. For [Roof Fire Resistance], we solved the issue by sandwiching a non-combustible membrane between the ETFE cushion types. ⇒ World first For [Roof Insulation], we addressed the issue by creating an air layer in the cushion type and applying special printing to the ETFE. ⇒ World first The combination of ETFE cushions and non-combustible membranes requires very high technology in all processes of design, manufacturing, and construction. *We also have a collection of case studies for other projects.
