Non-contact and non-wear measurement is possible.
The displacement measurement system SGS 4701 (Spindle Growth System) was developed for use with high-speed spindles. In milling equipment, it is necessary to correct for changes in spindle length caused by high rotational speeds and heat generation to keep the tool in a defined position. The SGS sensor detects the spindle expansion due to this heat and centrifugal force. Measurements are typically taken on the labyrinth ring, and in addition to changes in length, the sensor's temperature is also detected and output. The measurement values are sent to CNC control to correct any positional deviations.

basic information
SGS 4701 consists of sensors, sensor cables, and controllers that are adjusted at the factory to match ferromagnetic or non-ferromagnetic measurement targets. The two sensor form factors are small enough to be installed directly inside the spindle, and the compact controller can be mounted to the spindle housing via a flange or directly installed inside the spindle.

Applications/Examples of results
SGS 4701 functions based on the principle of eddy currents, making it non-contact and non-wearing. The measurement process of SGS 4701 is not affected by interference factors such as heat, dust, and oil.
