"Deep eutectic solvents" are a new type of solvent that possesses performance similar to ionic liquids. They are systems formed from eutectic mixtures of Lewis acids or Brønsted acids and bases, consisting of various anionic or cationic species. By synthesizing using two or more compounds, it is possible to obtain a eutectic with a melting point lower than that of any individual component, and a significant advantage is that they are generally cheaper than ionic liquids. Additionally, deep eutectic solvents made from natural components are specifically referred to as "natural deep eutectic solvents," making them more environmentally friendly.
