Chromagar MRSA using cephamycin antibiotics is available.
It has been reported that low-level resistant MRSA is difficult to detect in media using oxacillin as a selective agent, and our company proposes "Chromagar MRSA" utilizing cephamycin antibiotics. This medium is an enzyme substrate medium where MRSA grows in a characteristic "purple" color. It can also detect MRSA that does not show a yolk reaction. Additionally, the "Chromagar MRSA / Staphylococcus aureus differential medium," which does not contain antibiotics, can simultaneously isolate other coagulase-positive staphylococci along with MRSA. For the confirmation of MRSA or Staphylococcus aureus, we recommend "Dry Spot Staphytect Plus," which utilizes a latex agglutination reaction.

basic information
MRSA is a strain of Staphylococcus aureus that becomes resistant to antibiotics because it produces a cell wall synthesis enzyme called PBP2' that is difficult for β-lactam antibiotics to bind to. It has been spreading nationwide in Japan since the early 1980s, establishing itself as a nosocomial infection pathogen, and has evolved to become highly resistant or multidrug-resistant due to various antibiotics.
