Fecal coliform and E. coli testing medium
This is a culture medium for fecal coliforms and Escherichia coli testing. If gas production is observed after incubating at 44.5°C for 24 hours, it is considered positive for fecal coliforms. Confirmation of Escherichia coli can be achieved by conducting the IMViC test on those confirmed as fecal coliforms.

basic information
Escherichia coli and coliform bacteria testing is very important as a hygiene indicator for food. The definition of coliform bacteria is "all aerobic or facultatively anaerobic, gram-negative, non-spore-forming rods that ferment lactose to produce acid and gas," which is characterized by not specifying the species of microorganisms. This can provide information to determine whether food has been handled hygienically, and in some cases, it can serve as information for assessing edibility based on the type of food. If food has not been handled hygienically, there is a higher likelihood that bacteria causing food poisoning are present, increasing the risk of foodborne illness.
