1. Visual Inspection (Dents) Since the inability to pass a nut is a problem, sensitivity for detecting dents in the threaded area is required. Conversely, if a nut can pass, there is no issue; therefore, if the detection sensitivity is too high, it will affect the yield rate. In our company, by adjusting the lighting and image processing accordingly, we have achieved the detection of large dents that fall within the defective range while not detecting smaller ones that fall within the acceptable range. 2. Dimensional Inspection For the dimensional inspection of the threaded area, compliance with JIS standards is required. We measure the outer diameter, effective diameter, and the R diameter of the thread bottom with a resolution of several tens of micrometers to check if they meet JIS standards. Using a large telecentric lens without lens distortion and special surface lighting, we accurately detect the peaks and valleys of the thread for dimensional measurement. In this way, we achieve automation by combining various equipment and technologies to address workpieces that are highly challenging and for which there are no general-purpose devices available.
