The ICF-1171I series CAN-to-fiber converters are used in pairs to connect two CAN (CAN 2.0) devices or networks to single-mode or multi-mode optical fiber cables. The ICF-1171I CAN-to-fiber converter provides 2kV of isolation protection for the CAN interface and redundant dual power input, ensuring that the CAN system operates without interruption. The ICF-1171I series can isolate and protect critical segments of the system from other CAN networks and is protocol-independent, allowing it to operate with all different CAN protocols and frame lengths. This means that higher-layer CAN protocols based on CAN (CAN 2.0) or CAN FD (ISO CAN FD) can operate through the ICF-1171I series. When connecting two CAN devices via optical fiber cables, a pair of ICF-1171I series converters is required.

Typically, the total transmission distance of a CAN (CAN 2.0) or CAN FD (ISO CAN FD) system can be extended to 2 km (multimode fiber) or 40 km (single-mode fiber) using the ICF-1171I converter. The ICF-1171I can support point-to-point connections. Note: The transmission distance on the CAN bus side (excluding the fiber side) is limited by the "baud rate" specified in the ISO 11898 standard. The higher the baud rate, the shorter the transmission distance.
