<About Custom-Made Coatings> In recent years, PVD treatment has made remarkable advancements due to the development of contained elements and improvements in film deposition technology. In particular, the hardness of the coatings has significantly progressed in response to the sophistication of the work materials and cutting machines. For coatings used in molds and tools, hardness levels of over Hv3500 are now common, and for DLC used in parts, levels exceeding Hv7000 have also been observed. However, as film hardness increases, there is a tendency for film thickness to decrease in inverse proportion. This is due to film delamination caused by stress, which can be seen as a trade-off for increased film hardness. Nevertheless, film thickness is a very important factor for wear resistance and durability.
