There were no major construction works required for the sedimentation equipment, which helped keep costs and time down!
Selenium at a concentration of 0.4 ppm is present in the drainage generated from tunnel construction, and since construction cannot proceed unless the drainage is reduced to below the standard value of 0.1 ppm, we considered whether treatment using ion exchange resin could be implemented. Generally, the drainage generated from tunnel construction undergoes coagulation and sedimentation treatment; however, this requires a large equipment space and may lead to factors causing poor coagulation. Therefore, we sampled the actual drainage occurring at the site and conducted a liquid flow test using ion exchange resin at our lab. We confirmed the adsorption performance for selenium and demonstrated that treatment from 0.4 ppm to below 0.1 ppm is possible. [Issues with Coagulation and Sedimentation Treatment] ■ Removal of Selenium from Drainage - The concentration of selenium in the drainage generated from construction fluctuates, causing variations in the selenium concentration of the treated water from coagulation and sedimentation. - These fluctuations can also lead to variations in the amount of coagulant used, potentially resulting in poor coagulation. ■ Large equipment space required. *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.

basic information
**Case Summary** **Solution** - **Removal of Selenium from Wastewater** - Samples of wastewater generated at the actual site were taken, and liquid flow tests using ion exchange resin were conducted at our lab. - The adsorption performance for selenium was confirmed, demonstrating that treatment could reduce concentrations from 0.4 ppm to below 0.1 ppm. - It was verified that even if the selenium concentration in the wastewater increased, the treated water's selenium concentration remained constant (below 0.1 ppm), allowing for effective treatment, which led to a transition to full-scale processing. - **Large Equipment Space** - The equipment used in this case consists solely of an ion exchange resin tower, allowing for the elimination of reaction tanks and sedimentation tanks required for coagulation and sedimentation treatment, thus achieving space-saving. - It was proven through testing that the resin could capture selenium even if its concentration were to rise unexpectedly. **Results** - Selenium treatment in wastewater became possible, allowing for the continuation of tunnel construction. - By reducing the space required, there was no need for large-scale construction associated with coagulation and sedimentation facilities, resulting in cost and time savings. *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.*
