The purpose of setting limit samples (including good product samples and defective product samples) has several aspects, but three representative ones are as follows: 1. To evaluate the quality of products or semi-finished goods where quantitative inspection is difficult and qualitative judgment must be relied upon (for example, items such as soldering gloss, pinholes, fillet shapes, etc.; it is generally difficult to create all samples, so representative sampling is done with qualitative descriptions). 2. To evaluate the quality of products or semi-finished goods that can be judged quantitatively but require significant labor, advanced technology (which incurs costs), and thus are subject to visual inspection of all items (for example, confirming the amount of adhesive or sealant applied, or the quantity of amorphous materials). 3. To set samples from flowing products for phenomena where it is difficult to establish criteria for good or bad judgment, such as scratches, dents, or chips, but where there is a need to impose some restrictions on occurrences that are actually happening (setting samples by confirming the size and quantity of scratches, dents, or chips).
